Lechuguilla fiber is another natural treasure of Mexico. Unlike henequen, which is cultivated primarily on the Yucatán Peninsula, lechuguilla is more abundant in northern Mexico, particularly in the desert states. Lechuguilla fiber tends to be coarser and more resilient than henequen. It is used to make strong, durable ropes, as well as traditional handicrafts such as brushes, mats, and woven bags. Lechuguilla is often preferred for its toughness and is an integral part of the culture and crafts of Mexico's desert regions.
