About Pewter: The use of pewter in Mexico dates back to the 19th century, but it was in the 1930s that it became popular when a high-quality artisanal kitchen utensil industry developed, and it became a symbol of Mexican culture and identity. For many years, pewter was the preferred material for making kitchen utensils in Mexico due to its durability, corrosion resistance, and ease of cleaning. However, in the 1980s, its popularity declined as other materials, such as stainless steel and ceramic, began to gain a stronger foothold in the market.
Today, pewter is being revalued for its beauty, its connection to Mexican culture, its versatility, and its qualities: it is non-toxic, more resistant and durable than ceramic and glass, can be used over direct heat, does not alter the taste of food, is easy to clean, inhibits the growth of bacteria, and does not retain odors or residues.
