The design of the Monument to the Revolution is attributed to the architect Carlos Obregón Santacilia, who conceived this majestic structure in the 1930s. Construction of the monument began in 1932 and lasted for several years, ending in 1938. This construction process was a titanic effort that involved many engineers and workers.
The architecture of the Monument to the Revolution is characterized by its Art Deco style, a popular architectural movement at the time. The structure consists of a large rectangular base with four imposing columns that rise toward the sky. At the top, a bulbous dome stands like a beacon of hope and change. The dome is crowned by an equestrian statue of General Francisco Villa, one of the most iconic revolutionary leaders.
The monument is adorned with a series of sculpted reliefs and inscribed phrases that pay homage to the heroes and martyrs of the Mexican Revolution. Inside, a mausoleum houses the remains of key figures of the Revolution, such as Venustiano Carranza and Francisco I. Madero.
